Cybersecurity Hatfield Fellow Summer Program

The Cyber Fellows were selected through a competitive recruitment process for a 6-week program focused on supporting their professional development in cybersecurity within the public sector

The Hatfield Cyber Fellows Program was an inaugural 6-week intensive professional development initiative designed to address the critical cybersecurity workforce shortage by connecting select students with industry leaders and real-world applications in public sector cybersecurity. Funded through the NCAE-C Securing the Smart Grid Project and facilitated through partnerships between Portland State University, Chemeketa Community College, and Portland Community College, the program provided fellows with mentorship from established professionals like Oregon’s Chief Information Security Officer Gary Johnson and hands-on experience through tabletop exercises and facility tours at organizations like Portland General Electric. This competitive program equipped participants with both technical skills and policy understanding necessary to become competitive candidates for cybersecurity positions while addressing Oregon’s critical infrastructure protection needs.
