The Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) Academic Fellowship is a prestigious U.S. Department of State program that brings together the brightest young leaders from ASEAN countries for intensive leadership and civic engagement training. Through this $4 million initiative led by the University of Nebraska at Omaha in partnership with Arizona State University and Portland State University, fellows participate in short-term exchange programs designed to cultivate leadership skills, deepen understanding of American culture and institutions, and foster U.S.-Southeast Asia relations. The program culminates with fellows presenting action plans to Department of State representatives in Washington, DC, equipping them with the tools and networks needed to drive social change in their home countries.
YSEALI Academic Fellowship
PSU’s Center for Public Service is hosting 22 YSEALI fellows each year from 2022 through 2025, in partnership with the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) and Arizona State University (ASU). CPS’s YSEALI program focuses on the theme of Civic Engagement, providing fellows with the opportunity to learn tools and skills for engaging with community members and applying these skills in their respective communities to address social issues.
